Finals Preview

Hey fam! It’s finals weekend!!!!! Woooooooo!!!!!!

Both games can be watched on either Sky TV or via live stream on Facebook.

Farah Palmer Cup Premiership Final

Canterbury host Counties Manukau Heat at Rugby Park, Christchurch with a kickoff at 12.05pm. This is a repeat of last years final with Canterbury winning that game. Counties will be looking for payback for last years drubbing and will bring their A-game to this weekends challenge. Canterbury is on a role with Captain Fantastic Kendra Cocksedge leading a side that has dominated over the last seven weeks. This game will be televised live on Sky Sport 1 with coverage from 12 pm.

Farah Palmer Cup Championship Final

Wellington Pride will host Otago Spirit at Jerry Collins Stadium, Porirua with a kickoff at 1 pm. Wellington is looking to go back up to the Premiership next year with a win here. Otago are also looking at making the jump to the Premiership as they seem to always be the bridesmaid but never the bride.

Semi Final Preview

Hey fam! It’s the business end of the tournament in the Farah Palmer Cup and the teams are raring to go.  Check out who the teams are below.

Wellington Pride
North Harbour Hibiscus

The first Championship semifinal sees Wellington Pride host North Harbour Hibiscus at Jerry Collins Stadium at 12pm on Saturday afternoon. Wellington won this game easily in the round robin but North Harbour have made strides since last season.

Canterbury
Manawatu Cyclones

The first Premiership semifinal will have Canterbury host the Manawatu Cyclones at Rugby Park with kickoff at 12.30pm. Canterbury are the current defending title holders of the Cup so should be able to hold of the Cyclones. Don’t count Manawatu out though, they can play well when they want to and this game may be their surprise one.

Waikato
Counties Manukau Heat

The second Premiership semifinal will have Waikato host Counties Manukau Heat at FMG Stadium with a kickoff of 2.05pm. Waikato will go into this game as the favourites after stunning everyone in the first round by beating Counties.  The Heat have been off the boil this season and will look to recertify that in this game. This game will be live on Sky Sport

Otago Spirit
Hawkes Bay Tuis

The second Championship semifinal has the Otago Spirit host the Hawkes Bay Tuis at Forsyth Barr Stadium at 2.30pm. Otago will go into this game the clear favourites but the Tuis may have a few tricks up their sleeves. Thanks to Elevate Analysis this game will be livestreamed on Facebook hereRemember to save the link in Facebook.

Bay of Plenty Volcanix
Auckland Storm

This game will see the 5th and 6th team play off against each other to see who will be relegated to the Championship League next year. This decision was made before the start of the season by the FPC organisers and NZR.

I haven’t heard about any of the other games being livestreamed or live on Sky TV, only the ones mentioned above. So only the Waikato v Counties Heat and Otago Spirit v Hawkes Bay Tuis games will be on Sky Sport and livestreamed respectively.

Week Six Preview

Hey fam! It’s the last week of the round robin and almost every team has something to play for. Here’s the preview for round six.

All six games will be played on Saturday afternoon with the last two games being televised on Sky Sport.

Wellington Pride
Taranaki Whio

Our first game of the round sees the Wellington Pride host newcomers the Taranaki Whio. This wil be at Jerry Collins Stadium in Porirua with kickoff at 1pm on Saturday. With diginity to play for Taranaki may surprise us with a tough game. Wellington are guaranteed a home semi-final for next week but against who is the important question.

Manawatu Cyclones
Hawkes Bay Tuis

The Manawatu Cyclones host the Hawkes Bay Tuis at Central Energy Trust Arena in balmy Palmerston North with kickoff also at 1pm on Saturday. If the Cyclones walk away with a victory here they will be guaranteed a semifinal next week. The Tuis already have a semifinal spot for next weekend but they don’t know who against or where at this stage.

Tasman Mako
Otago Spirit

The Tasman Mako host the Otago Spirit at sunny Lansdown Park in Blenheim on Saturday afternoon at 2.05pm. Tasman have their pride to play for in this game while Otago would potentially secure a home semifinal with a win here and other results go their way.

Counties Power Heat
Bay of Plenty Volcanix

Counties Power Heat will host the Bay of Plenty Volcanix at Navigation Homes Stadium in Pukekohe** with a kickoff time of 2.30pm. Both teams have everything to play for here. Counties have secured a semifinal place for next week but they don’t know who against. The Volcanix could surprise us with a win and sneak into the semifinals.

North Harbour Hibiscus
Waikato

North Harbour Hibiscus host Waikato at QBE Stadium on the North Shore at 2.35pm. This game will be live on Sky Sport.  North Harbour will be in the semifinals next weekend. Waikato need this win to secure their home semifinal.

Canterbury
Auckland Storm

The game of the round sees Canterbury host the Auckland Storm at Christchurch Stadium at 5.05pm live on Sky Sport. Auckland need this win more than anything. *If they lose this game they will be relegated to the Championship for next season. Canterbury also need the win to secure their home semifinal spot.

*It has come to my attention that next week there will be a playoff of fifth and sixth place in the Premiership. Whoever loses that game next weekend will be relegated to the Championship for next season.

There is a lot to play for this weekend as you can see. I’ll try and keep the updates as up to date as possible but only two games are being televised and I have one person at the Wellington Pride game.

The picks for the Unofficial Fantasy Rugby are up and you can also register too if you want.

**This game is originally advertised as being played at Massey Park in Pakuranga on the All Blacks website. This is incorrect and both Counties Manukau Heat and Bay of Plenty Volcanix have the game at Navigation Homes Stadium in Pukekohe.
